U.S. Department of Labor Cites Florida Roofing Contractor for Exposing
Employees into Fall Hazards in Port Saint Lucie Worksites

PORT SAINT LUCIE, FL — The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has mentioned Turnkey Construction Planners Inc. — established in Melbourne, Florida — for exposing workers to fall hazards in two worksites at Port Saint Lucie, Florida. The roofing contractor confronts $114,294 in fines.

OSHA pioneered the inspections in September 2019 within this Regional Emphasis Program for Falls in Constructionlater inspectors observed workers working on roofs without any fall protection. OSHA cited Turnkey Construction Planners for failing to make sure workers utilized a fall protection system while engaged in roofing activities rather than needing that mobile ladders extend at least 3 feet above the top landing. OSHA has reported that the company six times in the previous five years for comparable dangers.

“Employers have a duty to provide a workplace free of recognizable hazards. Roofing contractors can mitigate risks for their workers by ensuring all employees use approved fall protection systems,” stated OSHA Fort Lauderdale Area Office Director Condell Eastmond. “Employers can contact their local OSHA office for assistance in making their worksites safe.”

OSHA’s Protecting Roofing Workers booklet details demands for providing fall protection, and for suitably positioning ladders.

The company has 15 business days from receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director or contest the findings prior to the individual Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
